The registration process is the same on the official Globe website and mobile application, Globe One.

  • Now, you will receive an “OTP (One Time PIN)” on that particular SIM card. (This OTP should be used within 5 minutes; otherwise, you need to click on the “Resend OTP” option to get a new PIN.)
  • Enter the PIN that you received and the system will start checking whether your SIM is already registered or not.

Globe Sim Registration Process steps

For Postpaid Users

The registration process for postpaid users is relatively easy and does not involve such verifications. The reason is obvious because Globe Telco already has the necessary information about Postpaid users for verification.

Here is the process for Globe SIM Registration for Postpaid users.

  • The users do not have to contact or fill out any form for SIM registration. Globe Telco itself will send you a message to confirm your personal and residential details.
  • If your information is true, you can confirm the details. For confirmation, you need to send the text “SIMREG” to “8080”.
  • Then, you will receive a follow-up text from the Globe to confirm your SIM Registration.

If you want to change your personal and address details or transfer your SIM to another person’s details, you need to visit the nearby Globe Store. A representative of Globe Telco will take care of this process and change your details after verification.

However, if you want to transfer the ownership of the SIM to another person, you need to take that person along to the Globe store. The representatives will verify your identities, and then your SIM ownership will be transferred.

Note that, the transfer of ownership is only for postpaid users. For prepaid users, Globe will come up with further information soon.

What’s the process for SIM registration for prepaid WiFi or MyFi users?

As we already discussed, the Globe SIM registration process is similar for every individual through the official website and GlobeOne mobile application.

But in the case of Prepaid WiFi or MyFi users, they will receive the OTP in their GUI Inbox instead of mobile phones as the SIM is inserted in their WiFi Modems.

For Prepaid Wi-Fi Users:

To get the OTP, you need to connect the mobile device (through which you are doing Globe SIM registration) to your prepaid WiFi modem.

  • Open the dashboard of your modem by entering the Globe SIM Registration link written on the back of your modem device, or http://192.168.254.254/.
  • Enter your credentials and open the dashboard. Here, you can see the OTP that you will receive after entering your SIM number on the registration portal.
  • If you are a Prepaid Internet Kit customer, you can visit globebroadband.net to open your dashboard.
  • Now, get your OTP from here and then enter it in the SIM Registration portal.
  • Next, the process is the same as we discussed earlier in this blog, like entering your personal and residential details, uploading your ID card or other ID Pictures, then uploading a selfie and finishing your registration.

For MyFi Users:

MyFi users can get the OTP by following the given process:

  • Connect your mobile device (through which you are registering your Globe SIM) to your MyFi modem.
  • Now, you need to log in to the dashboard of the MyFi modem by entering your username and password for your admin access.

  • Get the OTP and put it in the registration portal and the next process is the same as discussed earlier.

Why is Globe SIM Registration compulsory?

Due to a rapid increase in cyber crimes, online fraudulent activities, and scams through calls and texts, the government of the Philippines introduced a SIM card law. According to this law, everyone using SIM cards on their cell phones or internet devices must do SIM Registration with their respective telco companies.

After the implementation of this law, every new SIM or old SIMs will be registered after verifying the required documents of the users. This step will help reduce smishing, scams, and fraud activities significantly through mobile phones or devices.

The president of the Philippines approved this law in October 2022. Everyone in the Philippines using SIM cards was given a period of 180 days to register their cards and verify their identity.

Since then, anyone looking to buy a new sim must register it from the online portals or apps of the respective telco companies. Before this law, scammers used unregistered SIMs to scam people, and tracking them down was nearly impossible.

What’s the Globe SIM registration deadline and what happens if you do not register in time?

The SIM Registration Act, or SIM Card Law, was imposed in the Philippines in October 2022. The citizens of the country were given a deadline (initially from 27 December 2022 to 26 April 2023, then extended till 15 July 2023.)

Everyone who owned a SIM card had to register during this time period and if anyone failed to comply, his/her SIM was deactivated.

Now, new users who will buy a Globe SIM have to register it first and then they will be able to use its services. Without Globe SIM Registration, Globe SIM cannot operate on your mobile or internet devices.

How can foreigners register their Globe SIM in the Philippines?

The registration process is exactly the same for every individual, which is through the official website or GlobeOne Mobile Application. However, the documents for identity verification will vary.

If you are a foreigner, you need to provide all your personal details like Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Suffix, Birthday, and Nationality. For ID Type, you can choose a Passport or Return Ticket for Globe SIM registration and give your  ID Number as per your ID Type.

For proof of residence, you have to provide the residency registration document if you own a property in the Philippines. Otherwise, you need to provide details of your hotel booking or house rental during your stay in the Philippines.

Is the Globe Sim registration free?

Yes, Globe Telco does not charge any fees to register your SIM. Therefore, if you come across any individuals, asking for any fee to register your SIM card, avoid them.

Many scammers and cybercriminals are trying to make money through such scams, and they may also steal your personal information in the name of this SIM registration.

How can a basic phone user (not supporting the internet) register for Globe Sim?

As Globe Telco opened its online registration process for its SIM users, people with a feature or basic mobile phones that have no internet connection were really confused. However, the official representative of Globe Telco addressed this issue.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s chief sustainability and corporate communications officer, said, “Sometime in January or February, Globe shall put in place some guidance on a special assistance process for these customers, so they can go through the registration as well.”

As per the plans, Globe issued a statement in December 2022 that they will be setting up registration decks and booths in various parts of the country to help people with basic phones register their SIMs.

By August 2023, they had set up almost 1572 such assistance booths and desks where senior citizens, disabled people, and those who had features and basic mobiles registered their Globe SIMs.

Although basic phone users can do Globe SIM registration by accessing the internet from other smart devices, they must do it from the devices of their close ones; otherwise, their identity information and other personal data can be compromised.

So, it is recommended to visit the nearby physical assistance desks of Globe Telco to register your SIM if you own a basic phone.

Is Globe SIM registration necessary if a customer switches from prepaid to postpaid or vice versa?

In this case, the registration depends on the mode of SIM from which he has switched to the other one.

Switched from Prepaid to Postpaid:

If you have already switched from the prepaid mode to the postpaid mode, then your personal information, identity details, and proof of residence are already in the database of Globe. The representatives of Globe will soon contact you to verify those details and information, and your SIM will be registered. So, you do not have to visit any online portal or physical assistance desk for Globe SIM registration.

Switched from Postpaid to Prepaid:

However, if you have switched from a postpaid to a prepaid network, you need to register yourself for SIM activation. The process of registration is exactly the same as we have already discussed in this blog.

Do all the promos and packages expire if the Globe SIM is deactivated?

If you were unable to complete Globe SIM registration within the deadline provided by Telco, your SIM will be deactivated. During deactivation, all the files and data on that particular SIM are permanently removed and Globe SIM is expired.

So, if you have subscribed to any Globe Plan or promo, internet packages, or free calls and SMS, all such facilities will no longer be present once the SIM is deactivated.

What’s the punishment for using fake documents to register?

The government of the Philippines has taken strict steps to avoid scams, phishing, and cyber crimes through unregistered mobile SIMs. If anyone is found registering his/her Globe SIM using fake documents, the wrong ID details, or misusing or selling the stolen SIMs, strict punishment in terms of fines and prison will be imposed.

As per the official records, any culprit doing such illicit activities will face a fine of P300,000 or will be imprisoned for 6 months to 2 years.

What are the possible reasons a Telco company can be fined in the SIM registration process?

The government of the Philippines ordered the telecommunication companies to register all their respective users by verifying their identity and residence details. If any telco refuses to register a user without any solid reason, they can face a fine of P100,000 to P1 million.

Similarly, if the representatives of any telco company are found compromising the personal information and confidential data of the SIM users, they will be fined from P500,000 to P4 million.

Are the personal information and IDs of the users kept confidential by Telcos?

The SIM Registration Act, or SIM card law, has clearly mentioned that all personal information, residence proofs, ID details, and other confidential details of SIM users must be kept secret. The telco companies must make sure there is no breach of the data security of the SIM users.

Section 9 of the law is a confidentiality clause that states:

“Any information and data obtained in the registration process described under this Act shall be treated as absolutely confidential and shall not be disclosed to any person.”

This law is effective when the users have registered their SIMs on the telcos. The law includes penalties for violating a confidentiality clause regarding user information. The personal information of the user can only be accessed if he/she gives consent to the company accessing it.

Telecommunications companies can only be required to disclose SIM users’ personal data if a court orders them to do so. After the recycling process of a phone number, end-user data will be removed from the SIM card but will be archived by telcos for a minimum of 10 years, or as long as legally required.

How has Globe Telco supported this SIM Registration Act?

Globe Telco graciously appreciated the steps taken by the Government of the Philippines to counter cyber crimes, scams, and smishing acts. They supported the SIM Registration Act, or SIM Card Law, and assigned specific funds to facilitate the process of SIM registration.

Did the SIM Registration Act help reduce cybercrime?

Recently, a survey conducted by Tangere (a research firm in the Philippines) stated that 80% of the citizens of the Philippines believe that the SIM Registration Act will significantly lower the smishing and cyber crimes in the Philippines.

This step was taken to counter the increasing rate of phishing, cyber scams, and online fraudulent activities. Before the application of this SIM Registration Act, law enforcement agencies found it very difficult to trace down the scammers and other cyber elements involved in hacking, stealing money, and other illicit activities through SIM cards.

Now, with the help of this Act, each and every SIM is registered to a particular citizen, and he/she is solely responsible for any ill activity performed through his or her registered SIM card.

What should I do if I lose my smartphone with a registered Globe SIM?

The Globe representative will confirm these details and check whether that SIM is registered to your credentials. Once it is confirmed, your SIM will be deactivated immediately to avoid any potential illicit activity through your SIM or smartphone.

Therefore, you need to register for a Globe SIM by following the complete process that we discussed earlier in this blog.
