How to Register TM SIM through the Official TM website or GlobeOne App?

To successfully register your TM SIM through the Official website or GlobeOne App, follow the step-by-step instructions given below.

  • Visit the official site of TM SIM https://www.tmtambayan.ph/products/sim. Here, you can see the option “Register Here” or link: https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg. Click on any one of them, and you will be redirected to Globe’s official site, where the registration process will begin. (Open the GlobeOne App and here you will see a banner showing Register Your SIM. Click on that banner and you will be redirected to the official Globe Website.)
  • Now, enter your mobile number in the given box and click on the “Register” option that is available on the right side of the box.
  • You will receive a 6-digit OTP via SMS on your phone. Enter the 6-digit verification code within 5 minutes and verify that this SIM number belongs to you.

  • After verification, you will reach the “About you” page on your screen. Your SIM number will be displayed in a box.
  • Now, provide your personal information, like Your Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Suffix, Birthday, Nationality & Registration Type.
  • Click on the “Next” Button. Provide information regarding your residency, House Number, Street Number, Village or sub-division, Province, City, Barangay, and Zip Code.
  • Click on the “Next” option and here the next step is to verify your identity. Select the ID Type and put your ID number in the respective blanks. (ID Type means National ID, Voter’s ID, IBP ID, PRC ID, etc., and the ID Number must be relevant to the type of ID you selected).
  • Now, you upload clear and easy-to-scan photos (Max 2MB, JPG, JPEG, or PNG) of your ID Card. 
  • To verify liveness, click a selfie in a bright environment with a clear face and upload it.
  • Tap on the “Next” option. Now, read all the terms and conditions and tick the checkboxes.
  • Finally, click on the “Submit” option. Your verification is successfully completed, and you will get a Reference Number.

What is the SIM Registration Act?

The SIM Registration Act 11934 is a law, Under this law, TM SIMs (Electronic or Physical) registration is required for them to be activated. So, all SIM card holders must register their SIM cards.

The SIM Registration Law was passed to prevent the criminal activities and fraud that were performed by using mobile phones and online platforms like scam texts, smishing, etc.

Furthermore, Under the law, all SIM cards are sold by telcos or Public Telecommunication Entities (PTEs), and resellers, or legal distributors, are in a deactivated form. The SIM cards can only be activated once the SIM owners have registered their SIM.

What information is required for TM SIM Registration?

To register the TM SIMs, a lot of important personal information is needed. You are required to provide the following information:

Personal Information:

  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender identity
  • Mobile Number
  • Address
  • Government ID number
  • Government ID picture 
  • Proof of all the information

  • Philippine National ID card

For Foreigners Visiting as Tourists:

If you are a foreigner and plan a tour or are already in the Philippines, You need to register your SIMs. However, your registered SIMs can only be activated for 30 days, and after 30 days, your SIM will be automatically deactivated when the SIM expires.

For Students:

If you are a student, you need to submit the same requirements as a foreigner’s documents and information. But some extra documents that you have to require are:

  • School ID and registration 
  • For persons of Concern (POCs), a type of admission or travel document issued by the Department of Justice.

Possible Reasons for no TM SIM Registration – What should you do?

SIM registration is compulsory, you must try to register your SIM within the given time period. If you do not register your SIM before the deadline, your SIM is permanently deactivated. There are some common reasons why your TM SIM is not registered.

Reasons:

  • Your SIM card will expire.
  • Your device is not connected to the internet.
  • You have no load balance. You should know Globe/TM Balance Inquiry methods too.

Solution: 

  • Turn off your device and, after a few minutes, turn it on again.
  • Take out your SIM card from your mobile and wipe it with a dry cloth.
  • Check that your SIM card is properly inserted into your device.

Is the TM SIM registration free?

Yes, the TM SIM registration process is free. There is no Globe/TM payment of any charges to register your SIM. You do not need to charge your phone’s data wallet. The company provides a free registration facility to everyone, whether you are a resident, foreigner, or student.

Note: Many cybercriminals and scammers send fake messages about SIM registration and try to make money through such scams. So, avoid them and register your SIM-free device through the app or website.

What is the timeframe for TM SIM registration and what happens if the deadline is missed?

The IRR law (Implementing Rules and Regulations) was published on December 12, 2022, in the newspaper of general circulation. According to this law, the TM SIM registration process began on December 27, 2022, for both new and existing TM SIMs. 

New SIM holders were needed to immediately register their SIMs. However, the Existing SIM holders had to register their SIMs until April 26, 2023. (the last date was extended until July 15, 2023.

If anyone did not register their TM SIM within the stipulated time, his/her SIM was deactivated. Once the SIM was deactivated, the SIM users were no longer able to avail of TM/Globe customer services like calls, text, mobile data, and other TM services.

Note: Now, those who purchase a new TM SIM or 5G-Ready SIM have to register their SIM immediately and then they will be eligible to avail of any customer service.

How should you check if your TM SIM is registered or not?

Here, I will share some simple steps on how you can check if your SIM is registered or not:

Through Website:

  • Open “Browser or Google” on your device.
  • Go to the Official TM Website.
  • Click on “Register here.”
  • Enter your TM number. 
  • Tap on the “Register” option.
  • Type the OTP that is sent on your TM number.
  • If your SIM has already registered, this message will appear on your screen: “Your SIM has been previously registered.”

Through GlobeOne app:

  • Open the GlobeOne app.
  •  Tap on the “Click here” button.
  • Type your TM SIM number here.
  • Press the “Register” button.
  • Enter the 6-digit OTP that is sent to your number.
  • If your TM SIM is registered, you will see a confirmation message on your screen.

Why is SIM registration important?

SIM registration is important for all mobile phone users. It provides many different advantages. To grab these advantages, you need to register your SIM. Some of these major points about SIM registration are mentioned below:

1. To Stop Cyber Crimes and Scams: 

When the SIM owner registers their SIM with any government ID, it becomes easier to find bad guys and criminals. The SIM registration process also helps to track down crimes like human trafficking, hacking, smishing, scam texts, money laundering, drug trafficking, etc.

How secure is the SIM owner’s personal information?

The information of the SIM user will be secure. Under Section 9 (Confidentiality Clause): “Any information that a subscriber submits during the registration process shall be considered confidential strictly and not be shared with any person.

The law also punishes the person who violates the clause. The information of subscribers can only be released in two situations.

  • If the user authorizes access to their personal information.
  • Telcos can release SIM owner data only by court order.

If the SIM is deactivated, by law, the subscriber’s data will be deleted from the SIM. but the company will save the data for at least 10 years.

What is the punishment for non-compliance with the TM SIM Registration Act?

The TM SIM registration law sets the penalties for telcos and SIM holders. If anyone provides fake data or government IDs to register their TM SIMs or sells any type of stolen SIM, under the SIM Registration Act, they will be jailed for six months to two years and pay a fine of ₱300,000.

However, if Telcos, without any valid reason, refuse TM SIM Registration they will be fined from ₱100,000 to ₱1 million. The fine amount depends on the number of violations. Moreover, for violating the data confidentiality clause, Telcos, Telcos employees, and agents will be fined ₱500,000 to ₱4 million.  

If you lose your registered SIM, What should you do?

In any case, if you lose your registered TM SIM, you will report the incident to the TM Representatives and file for affedevit for lost TM/Globe SIM and provide the following personal information:

  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Address
  • Mobile Number

You can also submit your report to the nearest Globe store or contact TM through the official TM Tambayan Facebook Messenger account for urgent concerns. However, your old prepaid SIM will be permanently deactivated or expire, and you will get a new TM SIM with your old number.

What are the other conditions where a SIM user needs to inform the telcos about the registered SIM?

Under the following conditions, a user must inform the Telcos about the status of their registered SIM.

  • If the SIM owner dies, the family should inform TM immediately.
  • A SIM owner wants to change the personal information that was submitted during the SIM registration.
  • For any reason, if SIM users want to deactivate their registered SIM.

To deactivate your SIM, just go to the TM store, and your SIM will be deactivated within 24 hours.
